7 Questions to Ask Before You Order Custom Rigid Gift Boxes

A quote sheet tells you the price. These seven questions tell you whether the factory behind the quote can actually deliver — on color, on time, and at scale. Ask them before you send artwork anywhere.

1. What is your real minimum order — and what does a trial run cost?

Ask for the trial-order terms in writing, not just the bulk MOQ. A factory that trusts its own quality will let you test with a small run: Yoofo Packaging accepts trial orders from 100 pieces, and the sampling fee is fully credited toward your bulk order — so the trial costs you nothing extra if you move forward.

2. How long from approved artwork to goods on the water?

Get two numbers, not one: sampling time and mass-production time. Ours are 5 days for sampling and 20 days for mass production, FOB Shanghai. If a supplier cannot commit to both dates in writing, their schedule is a wish, not a plan — and your launch date pays for it.

3. Can you match my exact color and finish — in a single pass?

Brand colors live or die on press capability. We run Heidelberg 9+1 and 9+2 presses and combine cold foil, holographic laser foil, gold foil stamping, UV coating, and embossing in one production run — so the color you approve on the proof is the color on box number 40,000.

4. What is your daily output — and can you scale my reorder?

Peak capacity matters more than MOQ when your product takes off. Our plant peaks at 40,000 boxes per day. Ask any supplier for their peak daily number; if they hedge or change the subject, they are outsourcing the overflow — and you will feel it in consistency.

5. How much of the process stays inside your own walls?

Every handoff between subcontractors is a chance for color shift, delay, or finger-pointing. We keep printing, silk-screening, and cold foil work in-house at our own plant in Qingpu, Shanghai — one team owns your box from sheet to finished goods, and one phone number answers for it.

6. What certifications back up your quality claims?

Certificates are checkable; adjectives are not. We hold ISO9001 quality management certification and FSC chain-of-custody certification (certificate AEN-COC-001112, valid through June 2028). Ask any supplier for the certificate number and verify it — a real one has one, and a vague one does not.

7. What should a rigid gift box actually cost at volume?

A standard lid-and-base rigid gift box starts around $0.47 per piece at volume — use that as your anchor. Below it, ask what was cut (board grade? finish passes?); above it, ask what the premium buys. Either way, you now negotiate from facts instead of vibes.
